At Jim's Music we want you to have a great musical experience. Our family owned business has been serving school music programs with convenient and affordable rentals since 1986. We work directly with band directors to provide quality instruments and our flexible month to month contracts can fit any budget.

Is it better to rent or buy?

While we sell instruments for all ages and skill levels, renting is often the most affordable option for beginning musicians.

  • On our rent-to-own plans, all of your monthly payments (excluding maintenance fees) count toward the purchase of your instrument
  • Our maintenance plan includes repair and maintenance coverage and free fire and theft coverage. This covers most repairs at no additional cost and provides insurance against forced theft and natural disasters.
  • For many families, affordable monthly payments are more manageable than a large upfront purchase cost.

How long is the contract?

Most of our rental plans are month-to-month, meaning you can cancel your contract at any time by simply returning your instrument to the store with no penalty to you. Certain Jim's Music locations offer a 10-month Lease for Less contract that covers the first 10 months of your rental with an upfront payment.

How will I get my instrument?

For most local band and orchestra programs, we deliver instruments and accessories directly to your school! When renting online, you'll have the option to select in-store pick up or free school delivery. Our road reps make regular routes to area schools to deliver instruments.  

How will I be billed?

For our month-to-month rentals, you'll be billed on the monthly anniversary of your original contract date, and our easy automatic payments mean you never have to worry about missing a payment! You can view your online account and payment history HERE.

What if my instrument gets broken, destroyed, or stolen?

With your rental maintenance plan, your instrument will be maintained at no extra cost! This includes most major repairs as well as free fire and theft insurance. (Fire and theft claims require a valid police or fire report. Our policy does not cover neglect, abuse, or loss. See your contract for more details)

What if I decide to buy my instrument while renting?

If you or your student has developed a strong interest in playing their rented instrument and is likely to continue through their school years and beyond, it might be time to consider buying. You can save 20% off the purchase price of your instrument if you decided to buy within the first year of your contract, and save 10% if you decide to buy during the second year. How do I cancel my contract?

You can cancel your contract at anytime by simply returning your instrument to the store. Make sure all parts are included in the case and once we verify the serial number, your contract will be cancelled. Remember that if you are on a rent-to-own plan, cancelling your contract will forfeit accrued payments toward your instrument purchase.
